Stop Metro’s Vernon Expansion
Protect Vernon’s Economy. Protect Our Community.
Metro’s Link US / BNSF Expansion Plan threatens to divide the City of Vernon, choke our economy, and jeopardize public safety — all without meaningful engagement from the businesses and workers who make Vernon thrive.
The proposed project would:
Cut Vernon in Half: Metro’s small focus on 49th St closure and new track on 46th St sets up a path to sever the city’s west to east arteries with up to 400 railcars crossing Pacific, Seville, Soto, Boyle, Alcoa & Downey, forcing mile-long detours for 200+ businesses, 40,000 workers and all emergency responders.
Choke Vernon’s Economy: Metro’s own data show the project will triple train activity, increasing freight moves to 6x each day, with up to 400 railcars gridlocking streets N,S,E & W. The result: Clogged docks, idling trucks, driver overtime, and shipping penalties on manufacturers / distributors who anchor Southern California’s supply chain.
Endanger Public Safety: Delayed emergency response times, longer commutes, and increased exposure to diesel pollution put our health and lives at risk.
Ignore Vernon’s Voice: Metro has not meaningfully engaged our city’s businesses and residents. What they call “mitigation” is a land grab that will damage our economy for decades.
This is not just a rail project. It’s a threat to Vernon’s future.
